Three types of scholarships are offered to an international student to study in Singapore, which are:
- Government Scholarship
- External Scholarships
- University-specific Scholarships, also known as Host Universities Scholarships
Government Grant
Ministry of Education (MOE) Tuition Grant Scheme
The MOE tuition grant is given by the Singapore Government. It is given to all those who want to study full-time UG or Diploma programmes under Institute of Higher Learning (IHL), irrespective of the field.
- Condition – Have to sign a 3-year bond with Singapore University stating that you will have to work in Singapore for 3 years post the completion of the course.
- Amount – Flexible (depends upon the amount of loan taken)
- When to apply – Soon after you get the acceptance offer from the university where you had applied for admission, apply to this MOE Tuition Grant Scheme

External Scholarships
The external scholarships are those, offered by external organizations. These can be from a foundation or trust, a group of nations, research organisations, philanthropists, etc. to boost the influx of meritorious candidates to study in Singapore. Following is a list of top external scholarships:

- Sponsor – Singapore government
- Awarded to – full-time UG student of Singaporean University
- Living Allowance – $ 4206.42 per academic year

Singapore Management University (SMU) - This scholarship is awarded on the amount of tuition fees left after receiving Tuition Grant by MOE, Singapore.
Note: No bond has to be signed for this scholarship except the 3- year bond mandatory for all international students under the MOE Tuition Grant Scheme.
- Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA)
- Sponsor – A collaboration between Agency of Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), NTU, NUS and SUTD
- Awarded to – International candidates wanting to do PhD from Singapore (awardees from around 75 countries)
- Time duration – Span of 4 years
- Amount – Stipend amount (21, 778.65 USD approx.), settling allowance and one-time air-fare grant
- Last date to apply – June 2018 (for previous year)
- Next session start date – January 2019
- ASEAN Foundation Research Fellowship
- Sponsor – Asian Foundation
- Awarded to – Open for the nationals of ASEAN countries. A candidate who wants to pursue Masters’ degree by research.

- NatSteel Study Awards and Scholarships
- Sponsor – NatSteel
- Awarded to – International students doing UG in the field of accountancy and engineering from:
Nanyang Technological University (NTU)
National University of Singapore (NUS)
Singapore Management University (SMU)
Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD)
- Amount – Full-time fees + Annual allowance of $ 8000
- Bond period – 1 year of bond for every single year of study. Minimum bond period will be for three years.

NatSteel Scholarship Requirements
- Must have obtained GCE “A” level results.
- Must have a polytechnic graduate with Diploma in the related field.
- Last date for application submission – starts with the release of GCE “A” level results and ends 2 weeks later.
NatSteel Study Award Requirements
- Excellent CCA records
- Must be in the 2nd year of studies in their university degree course.
- Civil aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) Local Undergraduate School
- Sponsor – CAAS
- Awarded to – All undergraduate candidates except from the fields of Medicine and Dentistry at any of the local universities – NUS, NTU, SMU, SUTD, SUSS and SIT
- Eligibility Criteria – Must have passed GCE “A” level or equivalent
- Amount – Tuition fee, compulsory fee and other related amount
- Bond Period – 4 years
Note:
- Scholars will also have to do a compulsory internship to gain insight of the civil aviation industry.
- Distribution of the total amount will be done among 1st year, 2nd year and 3rdyear UG applicants.
- NRF Fellowships
- It is a type of fellowship given to independent scientists and researchers for undertaking ground-breaking researches. Appointees will be either offered tenure-faculty positions at leading universities or positions at 5 research centres of Singapore.
- Research candidates -International as well as local & potential candidates
- Research category – Science and Technology
- Eligibility Criteria – Must have passed UG with at least 60% marks in Honours/ 1st
- Selection Process – It is a 2-step process

- Must either be currently doing or offered an admission to full-time graduate research program at NUS
- Must be eligible for MoE Subsidy
- Amount = Monthly Stipend + Tuition fee subsidy
- Scholarship period – 1 year, thereafter the renewal would depend upon scholar’s progress
- Maximum period for Masters – 2 years
- Maximum period for PhD – 4 years
